About Gil Luna

My name is Gilberto Luna II, but people call me Gil. I'm the owner of the 64 Squares Foundation. Thank you for visiting our website. I was born and raised in Miami and have been involved in all aspects of chess here since 1992. I've been blessed to have a great chess career. I'm an official chess expert (2000+ rating) and tournament director with close to 500 tournaments directed over the last 25 years. Including Grand Master norm tournaments and invitational FIDE events. I have been part of three National Championship teams as a player and two as a coach.

I was the Programs Director for the World Chess Hall of Fame and Sidney Samole Chess Museum when it was in Miami. It was a great time. I was able to meet a lot of famous players for their inductions and made some friends too, including World Champions Anatoly Karpov, Boris Spassky, and Susan Polgar and multiple US Champions.

I am the Gil Luna from the movie Critical Thinking by John Leguizamo. It was a great experience to be a part of the whole process of consulting and being on set. I'm honored to be played by my good friend Will Hochman from Blue Bloods. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm6813707/

Once again, thank you for visiting our website. We are here for all your chess needs.
